John Muir also said “To go to the mountains is to go home”. Linda Marquis & I each felt the call to “come home” to the Rocky Mountains of Wyoming. She left a teaching career in Maine in 1986 & I left my photography studio in Texas in 1988. There are no regrets when you live in a place like Jackson Hole, Wyoming. The stunning beauty of this valley & the rugged mountains that contain it are daily inspiration. I’ve been a portrait and wedding photographer for 30 years. I quickly learned my creativity came directly from the landscape & was heightened by the dynamics of the people I was photographing. I am at my best when the grandeur of the Tetons & the intimacy of a wedding overwhelm me. Picking up a camera, Linda Marquis realized she had a way to capture the magnificence that drew her to Jackson Hole 19 years ago. She soon was hooked on the emotional high of working with people & delights in bringing the best elements of nature & humanity together. Her warmth & enthusiasm draw easy smiles from anyone she aims a camera lens at. As co-owners of Swope’s Mountain Photography, we agree on one thing: whatever your photography needs are, we want to make you feel special. And we want you to have fun.
Linda M. hits the slopes 3 days a winter week as an expert skier. I prefer the solitude I find on cross-country skis. In the summer we practically live in our kayaks, drifting with ducks on pristine alpine lakes. Recreation is the keyword when you live in JH! We try to bring that energy & mainspring into our work.
